Argumentum Authoritarum only applies to experts in fields other than the one in question are used to support your claim, such as if I used a lawyer who is a creationist as evidence that evolution can't happen. He might be an expect in some field, but definitely not biology. When you're dealing with thousands of scientists with expertise in fields such as atmospheric science, physics, ecology, geology and the likes, it loses it's effect.
