Helping you understand the absolute basics of conditioner-washing your hair.

Use the cheapest conditioners you can find - like Suave, V05, or White Rain at $1 a bottle. Try to avoid proteins & silicones for the first couple of weeks to get your head adjusted to the new routine. Then feel free to add them in, if you think you need to. Proteins can give your hair more strength, silicones can give you more shine & manageability. But they don't work well for all hair types.

Use conditioner same as you would your shampoo - apply & massage into your scalp, just make sure you to give your head a REALLY good scalp massage!!!

Don't forget to use shampoo occasionally, as needed, to help remove any excess build-up of conditioner, silicone, protein, etc.

Use different products until you find ones that work best for your hair type. Not everyone will like the same things, since we all have different hair (light, fluffy, medium, thick, course, straight, curly, etc)

  • I've used a few of those VO5's. They're pretty good. Especially that blackberry sage tea. How do you feel about those 2 in 1's? H & S's, Pert Plus, Etc?

  • @TheMKEWERBY I personally don't use the 2-in-1's (i might have like 20 years ago LOL) I don't know what kind of ingredients they have, but if they have sulfates, etc, they still may be too harsh for every day use. Basically, though, if you use it & you love the condition of your hair, etc, then keep using it =) I switched to co-washing because shampoo was seriously stripping out my color & also making my hair feel dry. I had to slather on silicones daily to keep it sleek & shiny.

  • Thank you for an entertaining video, as usual. Your hair always looks healthy and beautiful. My hair is fine in texture, but thick in quantity. I can barely use any conditioner on my hair at all - unless I wish to have flat and greasy looking hair. It is not that I don't rinse the conditioner out. My hair holds the moisture because its very porous., So, I don't think the co-washing would work for me. Any ideas on this? Thanks for mentioning price. Not enuf folks are honest about the expense.

  • @Bronwynswish I don't know what type of products you normally use, but have you tried volumizing conditioners? Sounds like you need a very lightweight conditioner. Do you shampoo a lot? If you do, that could be contributing to an over-productive scalp & lots of greasiness. All you can do, is try it for a couple weeks & see how it goes. It does take a bit of time for your hair & scalp to transition to the new routine. Maybe try it with a clarifying/volumizing conditioner only & see?

  • Thanks for the videos on this. I had some questions for you about this as well, but I think you covered it all. I've been hearing about co-washing for a while, but have been hesitant to try it. Afraid the conditioner will leave my hair greasy. So it doesn't matter if it's a leave-in conditioner or not, you leave it in just the same? Thx.

  • @Sherri119 I am not sure how leave-in conditioners work for this, I've never specifically used those that are marketed as such. Also, I'm not sure if you mean you'd like to just wash your hair with the leave-in, or if you want to use it as a leave-in =) You may find that using it as a leave-in causes build-up faster, so you will need to clarify your hair sooner with a shampoo (or perhaps switch co-washing conditioners frequently)

I say try it & see how your hair looks & feels.

  • Thanks, but I personally don't think the co-washing is right for me. I think I'll stick with the 2-in-1's. OK?

  • @twixtbetwixt Thanks.

  • you are so freakin' adorablz!

  • this is probably gonna sound crazy, but once a month I use a half bottle of seabreeze in my hair to get rid of all the build up, then cowash, I don't think I have washed, washed my hair in 6 months..just food for thought
