1. the guy was a retard (which i dont agree with because he managed to around the security check, so he must have enough intellect to decide to go to a toilet)

@woden20 I think you are one of the few people who got it right. The "bomb" was a fake not meant to go off. Let's face it, if a terrorist really wants to blow up a plane, why would he try to do so openly, why not in the toilet. Chertoff and his mobsters had this all set up to get his body scanners in airports.
