Checking how Van Eck Phreacking[1] works. Installed a Tempest test program[2] to broadcast a song via radio waves emmited from the CRT monitor.

  • Make sure you hook it to the $24 Wal*Mart video amplifier, I got channel 3 to go through a wall without drilling a hole. I took 100 feet-equivalent of dissected category 5 cable and taped the end to the wall on the receiving side, then stuck the bare end in the 75 Ohm of the TV. Then I put foil around the end of the wire from the TV to a little ways down and hooked the foil to the screwy part. It works a bit, kinda noisy. (This is in a convenience store with a lot of RFI).

  • yeah this is a fun trick, I have done something simmilar before. this reminds me also of reversing the rf units in the back of old VCR's to make av senders.
