The Boston Keratoprosthesis is an "artificial cornea" that can be used in severe corneal opacity. The Boston Keratoprothesis can be used after standard corneal transplant has failed or when such a transplant would be unlikely to succeed.
Google OOKP surgery and learn some FACTS! This boston technique is an American modified version of the OOKP started by Christopher Liu here in England! Mr Liu learned the surgery c1983 from the Italian inventor of it , but Mr.Liu and friend Italian surgeon totally refined & made the surgery work. He TAUGHT your American doctors the procedure! I know, because I have had the OOKP done! The USA modified it using plastic but it has proved not as successful as using a tooth. ( it rejects)
are you joking? 95% of all the innovations in medicine come from the u.s. not just medicine- computers and defense, too. you think laser-guided missiles and stealth came from france? small-incision surgery came from england?
the vast majority of the technological advances that make your life so remarkable comes from the u.s.- the greatest capitalist system the world has ever seen. surgical robots?- the u.s. cardiac stents?- the u.s. clot-busting drugs?- the u.s. wake up, pal.
@ranchump that's funny. The rest of the world doesn't seem to have a problem innovating even though most of the world have truly socialized healthcare systems. "Obamacare" isn't nearly as bold as those countries =-)
1st, the stitches from the old cornea transplant are removed. the artificial cornea is cut into a round shape with a special trephine blade. the cornea is dotted in the center, and a gizmo is placed to create the markings. a special trephine blade and scissors removes a circular piece of the cornea. the artificial cornea put into place and stitched on. tada!
you wont see this kind of innovation with obamacare!!
