Deep Impact is a 1998 sci-fi-drama disaster film released by Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks SKG in the United States on May 8, 1998. The film was directed by Mimi Leder, and stars Elijah Wood, Téa Leoni, Morgan Freeman, and Robert Duvall. The plot describes the attempts to prepare for and destroy a comet, which is expected to collide with the Earth and cause a mass extinction.

Movies like this are put out with the intentions of producing psychological affects. What I mean by this, is that if there was a giant comet coming towards Earth, after putting movies out like Armageddon, Impact, Deep Impact, etc,..this ensures that the global panic level would be that much less.

Unlike Armageddon, this movie is now a modern classic. It has more to offer then big action sequences. You really care for every person in this movie. Mimi Leder should direct a movie again!
