This is how you do a trust exercise with your cockatiel

TIP:
get millet and a clicker

Step 1.
bring your finger over toards the bird
(start from a further distance)

Step 2.
If the bird bites, hisses or moves away dont give a treat
and move away from the bird
( try again (same distance))

Step 3.
If your bird stops and becomes calm then click the clicker and give a treat

Step 4.
Keep getting a bit closer to your bird

Step 5.
Keep rewarding your bird for being calm and patient

*Remeber all birds are different and have different personalities and this might take a longer time to acheive*

This movie was staring PEARL!
(my 9 month old handraised cockatiel)

  • I am going to get a cockatiel and I was just wondering, how do you tell what age they are?

  • @Tillsbest123 umm you really cant unless the person that had him tells you … but you can estimate

If the cockatiel can eat on its own then he must be 4-6 months old if he is ready to make babies then hes a year or over ...

  • Man... That is absolutely fantastic... D:

I now have motivation to get my bird rolling. It'll be hard because I've had him for like 5 years and never actually... did anything... but I have no doubts that this will help.

    Thanks a lot :D

  • @ZuWrath0 coolz let me know how that goes

  • hey i have a female and male cockateil and the male seems very calm most of the time and willing to train, but the female always makes the male very nervous by flapping around everywhere. what do i do?

  • @imtherealcolt try to separate her from him … so that he can focus on the training.. shes might try to call for him (my female does that) its distracting 4 both birds so try to keep her in another room with music playing so they cant hear eachother
