IVAN, or Iter Vehemens Ad Necem, is an open-source graphical Roguelike that runs in 800x600 with an in depth materials system that adds a new layer of complexity. Walls can be made of different hardness of stone, weapons can be made of different strengths of metal and whips can have material of different flexibility for more damage. The game is actually very short and very straight forward but exceptionally difficult to complete even by experienced roguelike players. Find it at http://ivan.sourceforge.net/

In this video we continue on from finding an awesome weapon that allows me to simply plow through the enemies I find on this floor. However, this game is as brutal as I tried to say and compensates by putting an enemy on the next floor that is as powerful as my whip. Now, if I had a full set of armor that was as goodly as this weapon, I may have survived... anyway.

This video I am off to another good start, but the better the gear, the better the death. We'll see just how far I can go now that I have this shiny new armor, and see if said armor will be able to protect me from painful, painful death that is sure to come. Violent Road to Death indeed.

  • I once decided to keep a wand of fireballs and a bottle of sulphuric acid on me at all times. I walked around, opened an explosive door, and the bottle broke, disintegrating the wand, and making me explode.

    I love this game.

  • @attackthem5 The game is rather brutal when it comes to letting you survive. There's so many ways to die to even mundane things... vomitting on yourself and having that kill you via acid is... blech! Leprosy from the zombies at the start is a real pisser though. :p

  • Man, That's so true, Chain Reaction Mines are the BEST was to die XD, I've set off about 20 at the same time, in the Dwarven Minefield... and lived... of course, I wound up getting decapitated by a Golem Soon after

  • That almost happened to me in my little play through. I recently got all my things back (had to format the computer) and went through another save. I found an amulet of Life Saving in the Underwater Tunnels and lost it in the first floor of the Gloomy Cave to a floating eye making me fodder for a human flesh golem and a... pork golem. I stabbed them to death and am still going strong though! :D

  • @TinariKao wait, THAT'S what was causing me to fall apart!?

    motherfuckers!

  • @TinariKao Also, just noticed.

If all your limbs have been severed off (goddamn hedgehogs) besides your head, and you try and run, your status changes to "rolling."

No idea why, but this made me laugh.

  • nice, my best death in ivan so far is stepping on a landmine whilst carrying a backpack full of gunpowder, and my want of door creation exploding and creating a ring of doors surrounding my corpse. Id love to find that ghost
