This video compares the character themes from the original Japanese-only edition of Tatsunoko VS Capcom (Cross Generation of Heroes) with the original versions of the songs from the games/anime they debuted in.
Due to time-restraints, this video only compares the Capcom side of the roster. For the Tatsunoko side, click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdBTr9cUpzA
Each sample is roughly 30 seconds long and arranged chronologically based on the debut year of the song, not the character. (For example, while Ryu has been around since 1987, his theme was taken from 1991's Street Fighter II.)
These songs are copyright Capcom and any associated composers, singers, and/or subsidiaries. I have no association with any of the aforementioned companies. I will also not advise where to download full-length versions of any of these songs.
-- RYU -- "Japan Stage - Theme of Ryu" (Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, 1991)
-- CHUN-LI -- "China Stage - Theme of Chun-Li" (Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, 1991)
-- MORRIGAN AENSLAND -- "Theme of Morrigan" (Vampire Hunter: Darkstalkers' Revenge, 1995)
-- SAKI OMOKANE -- "Watashi ni Makasete! [Leave It to Me!]" (Quiz Nanairo [Seven-Colored] Dreams: Miracle of Rainbow-Colored Village, 1996)
-- ALEX -- "Jazzy NYC - New York Stage" (Street Fighter III, 1997)
-- BATSU ICHIMONJI -- "On the Rooftop of Taiyō High School" (Shiritsu Justice Gakuen [Justice Private Academy]: Legion of Heroes, 1997)
-- ROCKMAN VOLNUTT -- "Flutter VS. Gesellschaft" (Rockman DASH: Hagane no Bōkenshin [Adventurous Spirit of Steel], 1997)
-- ROLL -- "Kazeyo Tsutaete [Bequeath the Wind]" (Rockman Battle & Chase, 1997)
-- VIEWTIFUL JOE -- "Joe the Hero" (Viewtiful Joe, 2003)
-- YAMI -- "Taiyō ha Noboru [The Sun Rises]" (Ōkami, 2006)
-- PTX-40A -- "Battle Ready" and "Theme of Lost Planet" (Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, 2006)
-- KAIJIN NO SŌKI -- "Theme of Blue Oni" (Shin Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, 2006)
*Important Note*
I am not 100% sure on the Lost Planet songs that I compared to PTX-40A's theme. If anyone more Lost Planet-savvy can give me a definite comparison, I will greatly appreciate it.

By that same token, Ryu's theme would more closely be the SSFII arrangement based on the instrumental choice. Not saying that you're wrong, but with this video, I tried to shoot for the original debut version of the melody itself, not the particular arrangement of the melody that TvC's was based on.

@Mysterious0Bob
The game isn't called Rival Schools in Japan. It's 私立ジャスティス学園 LEGION OF HEROES (Shiritsu Justice Gakuen: Legion of Heroes). That roughly translates to Justice Private Academy. I'm trying to keep with the spirit of the Japan-exclusive themes by citing the original Japanese titles, hence why it's Rockman DASH in the video and not Mega Man Legends.
