I'm so glad people have documented this and that i'm not the only geeky one who wants to see this little bit of history in the making.

Thank you. I am a native of Toledo, so this IS history worth recording.
BTW, does anyone have a cannon and a bunch of black powder? I want to give US NTSC broadcasting a 21 gun salute.

Lol... thanks for the reply
It is interesting that this has had about 200 views yesterday and today, this shutoff actually happened on 2/17, the original "transition day", and was posted soon after.

It needs a converter to tune uhf analog. That thing is old school. Is it still original picture tube? If so, thats some good quality.

Not quite. Per a card left in the set by a TV repairman (the card long since lost), the original (24YP4, I think) was replaced by a 24AEP4 (no ion trap) in 1966 (which implies the original had a very short life!). My assumption is that the set has had relatively little use since (I got it in 1979 and in only about 3 years total has it been a daily watcher). If it goes unused for a few weeks, it takes several minutes after power on for the "silvery look" to go away.
