Mandawuy Yunupingu and Yothu Yindi at the "Festival of Aboriginal Rock Music" in Darwin in 1988.

1988 was Australia's Bicentenary year - representing 200 years of colonisation. Indigenous Australians variously gathered, celebrated, or protested in ways they saw fitting. It was a year with many festivals and gatherings across the nation.

This was one of them, in Darwin, in Australia's far north.
