Muslim women are usually seen wearing loose, flowing clothing with a headscarf. Why do they dress like that? Answered by Imam Khalid Griggs.

  • When the late 40s actress Katherine Hepburn started to don the traditionally-male garment SLACKS or KHAKI pants it was deemed as somewhat of a LIBERATIN REVOLUTION. Now see the comparison between that and the HIJAB

  • "The tradition, borrowed from the upper classes of Iranian and Syrian women, of veiling and secluding the most important women in society from the peering eyes of everyone else. That the veil applied solely to Muhammad's wives is further demonstrated by the fact that the term for donning the veil, darabat al-hijab, was used synonymously and interchangeably with "becoming Muhammad's wife".

  • i think it doesn't matter what you wear.. you could be wearing a mini skirt and tank top or be dressed from head to toe with only your hands and face showing.. it doesn't matter, you WILL be looked at and not neccessarly in a good way.. some people wear what they to be looked at... i think its to be expected.. no matter what the reason for the clothing..

  • So let's say that freedom of expression is certainly not denied in Europe. That's a total missunderstanding. On the contrary: Europe is fighting a hard struggle to keep it safe from Islamofascist influences that try to undermine it.

Again: I do believe you don't have much contact with (especially young) Muslims. Personally I do!! Reality is much different than you think it is.

  • I do use the word 'aggressive' for the behaviour of muslims over here the last two decades, with reason. Where is our freedom when all over Europe they shout out for the liquidation of the maker of the "Mohamed-cartoons"? Where are our achievements about secularism when they suddenly demand the right to wear an islamic kerchief (or even burka) while working in a public service (like the countyhall), where is our freedom when they demand an immediate stop of serving porc-meat at our schools?...

  • Ok, my English is nog good enough to come to a decent discussion here, but let's give it a try to make my point. First of all: I'm not sure about the fact that freedom of speech is so accepted in the US. I think it would be a bad teacher for the rest of the world. Just have a try and shout out loud that you're against the right to bear arms and that the war in Iraq sucks, let's say in Texas. I think you won't get far with that "freedom of speech"...

  • Why aggressivity? These women simply have a firm devotion to dress conservatively and if this is practised more so among Muslims then so be it. Why can't we respect this. Freedom of expression is certainly a basic human right accepted here in the US. The issue is when these rights are denied, as we see it in parts of Europe today. Protests from Muslim women might be seen as aggressivity, but I would say that they are merely struggling to get back their rights.

  • Same here and Idem dito for today.

Although the negative thing about the whole subject is that Muslims are far more aggressive about it. And that aggressivity is growing day by day over here. The respect for our achievements of the last 300 years is zero to none.

  • Again, the Islamic obligation is clear. ALL MEN are to guard their modesty- and yes, I know many young men who do.

One might be surprised at how similar Islam is to historical and current day values from the West. We actually have more in common. The conservative dress code is just one similarity Just look back 100 years in my country, the USA, and see how conservatively women were dressing here. Even today, nuns and orthodox Jewish women continue to share values of modesty with Muslim women

  • "SOME members"??... I believe you don't have regular contact with young muslims then nowadays!? Certainly not!!

With all do respect for any choice of any human being, but Islam as it is practiced is a religion of submission of the non-believer, oppression towards woman, hatred, violence and imperialism.

The "many who are practising the verses" are then probably those imams in our regions who proclaim the hate towards our democracy, and the achievements of Western civilization?
