A video to show you how to have audio going through both your Optical cable & your HDMI cable on your PS3.

I spent a fair few hours fiddling around with different combinations and I hope the video helps you get dual audio too.

The difficulty is the timing of when to switch the tv back on...don't worry if it doesn't happen the first few times, you'll manage it eventually.

I'm not sure if it depends on the make of the equipment. I have a Sony HiFi my Optical cable plugs into & the HDMI cable plugs into a JVC TV.

  • he can u please help me andy because my ps3 sound works but a few seconds later while im in game the sound keeps cutting out

  • @RyzaHDizzle not sure this is linked with multiple audio output...but can try helping.

It sounds like it's a problem with your PS3 software and not the TV...I assume you output sound from your TV?

You using a HDMI connection or component cables?

  • There is now an option under Sound Settings - Audio Multi-Output. Switch this to On and you can then run sound through 2 auido outputs. In my case, the HDMI & Optical Output.

PearlDrums1234...I connect to my Sony Hifi via an Optical cable. The optical out on the PS3 is located next to Ethernet port.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hey people...sorry...I forgot about this video. I think since it's been quite a while, and there has been many firmware updates, I don't think this technique works anymore!

If anybody tries it & it still works, would be great to hear people are still finding this useful & are not getting frustrated because it no longer works with the latest firmware release!

  • I don't think you can get it to work this way anymore, due to recent firmware updates. Not sure how to do it now...I'll have to try and fiddle around again & see if I can figure it out!

  • Confirmed that the PS3 has a multiple audio output option now. I didn't notice the option prior to performing the update, but I know for a fact that after performing the firmware update today there is an option under audio settings to select multiple audio out and I was able to hear audio via all 3 outputs simultaneously.

I'm not sure what effects this has on the audio quality of the HDMI or optical outputs.
