Popular Baby Names

Now I understand, since I do not have any children, I do not have a place to stand in the debate over whether or not a parent should have the right to name their child Johnathan. I'm just asking parents to use a little common sense. If you don't want your kid getting whiplash as s/he grows up, don't give your kid a common popular name. Think of something that won't often be shouted out in a mall by all the other parents who didn't put any thought into their child's name.

Please don't name your kid anything biblical. Please don't name your kid after a fictional character. Please don't name your kid after a relative. And please for the love of God, don't name the kid after yourself. Then he gets to be called junior all his life and nobody wants to be called junior.

That is admittedly where Bedlam and I may disagree. I'm thinking "Martiqua" is a cool name. It's not common. "Todd" would be child abuse. A kid's gonna get whiplash with a common name. "Guy" is not a name. It's what I use when I don't know the name. Like saying "Dude." I wouldn't name a baby "Dude." I honestly don't get how Jonathans are not all psychopaths by now.
