When a drug addict is struggling against his cravings, he is balancing potential gains (pleasure) versus loss (consequences). Brain imaging studies will attempt to answer the question: is there a part of the brain that compares gains and losses, or several brain areas that compute gains and losses separately? Dr. Greg Berns of Emory University gives an overview.

  • You should always question the foundations of decision making, especially the big decisions. If its based on either a weakness, bad advice, or poor information, then it likely the decision will lead to loss. Since we don't normally live in a vacumn, even leaders have advisors - hopefully wise ones with good intentions.

  • The results of this would be fascinating, so please hurry and update us on your findings.
