WARNING SOME PHOTOS SHOW BITE INJURIES! As Cassie Embry prepared to make dinner, a friend's pit bull attacked Jaydin.

"He jumped on him and within the time it took me to grab him, the dog had already bitten him three times and pulled off his scalp," she said.

Cassie says she punched and kicked the dog, even sprayed him with mace to get him off. Finally after five minutes the dog released his grip. Not before biting Cassie's fingers.

In the past year Jaydin underwent four surgeries, including a few skin grafts to mend the bite on his scalp.

Hugs help comfort Cassie Denhaese, when she thinks about what happened to her son. "It's incredible, honestly that he's alive."

Thanksgiving morning, they were cooking at her boyfriend's when suddenly his pit bull attacked her one-year-old Jaydin. "As I picked him up, the dog jumped on him again and started shaking him like a rag doll. That's when he tore off his scalp."

She threw herself on Jaydin, but the dog kept biting, puncturing his leg and bottom. "I started punching Joe (the dog). When Joe wouldn't let go, I reached over and got my mace and sprayed him. It didn't deter him what so ever," Denhaese says.

Denhaese, who was also bitten finally got Jaydin free. She rushed Jaydin to the hospital. "I'm not going to wait 15 minutes for an ambulance when my son is bleeding all over me."

Doctors wrapped his head to stop the bleeding. Then they waited for his scalp, which was at the apartment to try and reattach it. Doctors might have to take skin from his bottom for a head graph. He'll have to go through several surgeries.

Jaydin is expected to make a rull recovery, including growing back his red hair. "For the injuries he had, he's doing great. You couldn't ask for more," his dad Travis Embry says.

Denhaese says they've known the pit bull for awhile and Jaydin always played well with him. She says there was no warning the dog just attacked. Animal control took the dog.

A fund has been set up for Jaydin at InTrust Bank. It's listed under Jaydin Embry.
