On May 20, 2011 the New Mexico Space Grant Consortium launched an Up Aerospace rocket with science payloads created by middle school, high school, and University students. The rocket was launched 73.5 miles AGL up into suborbital space from the Spaceport America vertical launch facility in Upham, New Mexico.
The Student Launch program was created by the NM Space Grant Consortium with the intent to inspire kids and get them interested in the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) by giving them hands-on experience building science payloads.
This video features interviews with:
- Christine Anderson; Executive Director of NM Spaceport Authority
- George Whitesides; President and CEO of Virgin Galactic
