I lived in LB on seaside at palm beach park next to the navey landing and the nu-pike. I was 12 and for a kid it was candy land believe me! And the begining of a love afair with the ocean. You could surf linden beach or the river even! But to be there in the 20's or earlier would have been neat! I spoke to someone that lived in a tent on magnolia beach in the early 1900's once!

Then left the port for Florida via the canal from there. Glad I didn't have to return to the same port. After four days it is clear that Long Beach is a smoggy, littered, backward town with bums, panhandlers, gang graffiti and a rundown appearance. Long Beach's people look very frustrated from east side to port side - and that's a lot of miles of crappiness.

Pics dont do this shithole Long Beach justice. The countryside of Normandy was beautiful too. Focus in and you see all the crud lying around. Been there yearly in the last few years. Last time I flew in to go to CSULB for a basketball game. Hospitality is not one of Long Beach's forte'. Nor are its cabs, its hotels or restaurants. Hello? Anybody speak English? Can I get a smile from a service worker? Oh, sorry, you must really be an out of work film producer that I caught on a bad day.
