Our project, under the working name "At Home," is a combination ethnographic study, research and design project, and awareness campaign. We'll begin with a study of people and their living spaces in Los Angeles with photography and interviews. We plan on transforming this content, along with original architectural and social research, into a newspaper, a poster series, a book, and multimedia installations. The installations will also serve as fundraisers for housing organizations. In a county in which the distributions of wealth and race are strongly associated with zip code and neighborhood, At Home seeks to find out whether the seemingly universal concept of "home" adheres to the same rigid geographic and social boundaries. All media will be made freely available online through Creative Commons.
