The song originates from this Japanese song, 夜のフェリーボート. 鄧麗君 covered this version. 井上忠夫(Inoue Tadao) composed the tune while 山上路夫(Yamagami Michio) the lyrics.

There are a few of Chinese versions I know. The first one is this version, 情心怎分享. 薰妮 sung this in Cantonese. 盧國沾 wrote the lyrics while 吳智強 arranged this version. This song first released from this album, 又見別離愁 in 1978.

The second one, but a better known song, I know is sung in Mandarin. 鄧麗君 and other singers covered this song, 你在我心中. 王文元 wrote the lyrics in Mandarin.

Finally, there is 鳳飛飛's rendition of 怎能離開. 杜莉 create the lyrics for this version. The song first appeared from the album, 明天廿歲 on September 1976.

I agree with that the music and the lyrics from the 70s and 80s are genuine. The quality of new songs in this generation is appalling. It is not nearly as good as the ones in the older generation.

I have listened to both the Japanese and the Chinese songs by Teresa Teng before listening to this version. I think the melody is suppose to be sad, just like this song.
