Sirius XM: Rosie Calls Re: GOP-Voting Gays to Michelangelo Signorile Show

I asked listeners to respond to the prior day's calls from gays who voted Republican (featured in the video I posted yesterday, consider this Part II). Todd from Phoenix, a gay man, called to tell me that he didn't like my tone with the callers, that he too voted Republican and that gay issues (marriage in particular) just don't matter to him. Then Rex from South Carolina called to say, I used to be just like Todd until I heard Rosie O'Donnell interviewed on the show, telling her story. Rosie happened to be listening, and then called in and explained how it was Evan Wolfson of Freedom to Marry who convinced her why marriage was so important. A great exchange of ideas.

You have the right to vote Republican, sure. But gays vote for Republicans for selfish reasons, as Mike keeps pointing out. Money is a big one. Rich gays vote Republican and they don't give a shit about other gays. It's quite sad.

Todd seems VERY obsessed with his 'right' to vote against his own best interests. Signorile is right - while Todds second class citizenship may not be affecting his life much today he may very well be in for a big suprise tommorrow. And who will he blame - the Republicans he helped put into office?

Instead of voting for the Republican, if you are protesting the Democratic candidate, vote third party or a null vote. It may not make statistical difference but you have expressed your opinion. Voting for the Republican's, who hate you, is stupid and it is harmful to our posterity

It almost seems to me that being a gay-republican makes about as much sense as drinking and driving.

And even If your life is fabulous as is, and you don't really want to think about how unequal you are... What happen to solidarity... How could you vote for politicians that would prevent other gay people from reaching happiness.

The truth is the no gay person that has had to go thru trying to adopt, get married, job firing, immigration, health... Would in their right mind vote republican.

Another point, these recent teen "suicides" who happen to all be GAY are now going to be protected if a Anti-Gay hate crime law is passed...

So what about the rest? How about the millions of other teens that are bullied everyday... You are special because govt. puts a label on you? A business needs to serve me because I am a minority, they cannot discriminate me because GOVT. tells me so...

So what? Go to another business that would serve you, it is their loss! Geez..
