This is what happened when the ignition switch went bad in a 2000 Buick Regal. Turn the key to the run position and the dash lights go crazy. Pushing the signal lever shuts the power off. Normally I would have to keep turning the key from off to on until the signals work. In this video they just stared working, only ever happened like this once.

Tuning the headlights or the hazard flashers on would make the dash lights stop blinking and the car would start and run normally except using the signals would shut it down. What I did was turn on the signal before I started the car and kept going form off to on (not start) until the car came on with the signal. If you use the headlight switch or hazards to run the car DO NOT TURN THE SIGNALS ON OR ELSE THE CAR WILL DIE..

If your gonna change the ignition switch you must have 2 female torx sockets, An E4 for the 2 ignition switch screws and an E5 to get the top steering column shroud off. I used an E4 deep socket because one bolt is kind of in there behind some crap. Feel free to ask any questions.

In my opinion this should be a recall. I sure wouldn't want to be on the highway and have the car shut off because I wanted to change lanes. It was bad enough in the city. This problem seems very common among alot of GM models. No wonder they went bankrupt. They shouldn't be in business if they're going to peddle their garbage onto the public and not stand behind it, ridiculous. I'm really not sure how this isn't consider a safety concern by either GM or the NTSA?

  • I have the same problem with my dashboard blinking.

So I don't have to replace the ignition key cylinder just the switch?

  • @icecoldcity What car do you have?

  • where did you get the switch??? I got the same problem right now!!! help me please...

  • @wishocolat You can get them at any autoparts stores. Rockauto.com is good.. They call them "ignition starter switch".

  • My 2000 buick regal is doing the same thing but at my auto parts store there are 2 options for the ignition switch. One is where the key actually goes into or the part under the column. Im guessing its under the column is that correct.

  • @joskline You want the one that goes under the column. I used STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS US264.

  • @regaljh

2002 Buick & I have the same problem.

I was wondering is it easy to change the ignition switch.

Cuz i'm getting the wire off of ebay.

I want to install myself instead of paying loads of money

    on a mechanic

  • @cpp1 Our Buick Regal LS did this just today!~ This has got to be faulty manufacturing, since so many have the same problem with a part that gets minimal wear and tear, and no user road damage due to misuse.

  • my grand prix is doing the same thing lol

  • @regaljh thanks!!! man I fixed already... it was a little bit hard, but I did it...jeje.. thanks for all... bye

  • @regaljh thanks!!! one question more!!! I have to remove the ignition key cylinder??? cause I can't remove it; I don't know how!!!
