I think the reason this song hits me the most is because it's so familiar. It's an uncomfortably accurate image of life sometimes. It's too true of a song.

"'Hey, 'ma, guess what today, I did another magazine interview!'

'Honey, that's great, you're really famous!!' Yeah and I'm 27 too!

I kinda thought I was gonna grow up to do stuff that would benefit humanity

But it's getting harder to tell if this artist's life is even benefitting me..."

    God. I love this.

Sorta ruins what so many people love about it though. I feel that the "overloading of words" gives this song the right atmosphere, how each verse starts with pretty much the same line and then jeffrey's stream of consciousness style make this song feel quite dream-like, the tangents that he goes off on. Ramblings about life, just because he though he saw will oldham on the L train in the morning. . It makes this a true masterpiece.

There's such a great balance of emotions in the song, the jealousy, self loathing, truth (and search for truth) and humour that I thought it would be hard to pull off visually as the listener creates his or her own balance of these things with their own mental imagery.

For example the more comic aspects of the Will Oldham character weren't present in my interpretation, he was more enigmatic, but overall it fitted really well with my feeling of the song (which I flippin' love by the way!).

So many views now. It's good to see Jeffrey Lewis getting some attention & I love this introspective nightmare of a song.
