  • Well....this is great burlesque dancing. Very cute and sexy!...but honestly, there was very little bellydance. I personally think it should be called burlesque dancing...leave out the bellydance, cuz a few moves here and there don't make it bellydance or bellydance fusion........BUT it was GREAT BURLESQUE!

  • To all you idiots that are like "stop calling this bellydancing cause it's an insult to it" or whatever the fuck your opinions are. Always remember that you're ashamed of your own sexuality. Nuff said.

  • I agree - to label this belly dance disturbs me. As my fellow belly dancers and instructors has said - we spend so much time and energy to promote our dance as an art form and not a striptease or selling SEX.

  • @reannan1462 So why does the title include "belly dance"??!! That's what offends me as a professional belly dancer! You, of all people, should KNOW it's not even "pure" belly dance, it's NOT belly dance at all. I spend much time educating students that what we do does not involve striptease, then something like this comes along and they think they can throw belly dance into the mix! It's burlesque, NOTHING belly dance about it!!! PERIOD! Samia Gamal is rolling over in her grave!!

  • But here, I suppose it comes down to a matter of preference. I can see why some belly dancers might be offended, if they are the ones trying to separate their forms of dance from more sexual forms of dance. But as someone who loves burlesque, regular strip tease and other overtly sexual forms of dance, I find no problem with it. Main point being, that maybe combining two things that previously did not go together might not be such a bad thing. Make room for new interpretations.

  • @Rena66 Ok, fine, so tribal is a branch of belly dance. An offshoot. The point I was trying to make is that many tribal dancers utilize a darker image, with fishnets and untraditional movements. (Yes, I will also agree that the tribal movements are not as obviously sexual.) And make no assumption that I’ve merely “looked up” tribal fusion. I’ve taken several classes, and have taken traditional belly dance classes for years.

  • @WolfInWomansSkin And another note: Adding a dance that celebrates sexually writhing on the floor or the removal of clothing, even if it's partial (as is traditional with burlesque) to belly dance, is wrong. Fusion is great when it's done with a dance that is not a form of striptease, but to add belly dance to this mix is offensive to most of us who go out of our way to educate people on this. Defend it as you will, burlesque is NOT belly dance and it's in poor taste to associate the two.

  • @WolfInWomansSkin - Tribal Fusion is NOT belly dance, it's a form of it, that's why it's called "fusion". Additionally, I have many friends who are tribal dancers and would NEVER perform like this. You obviously have only "looked up" tribal fusion, you don't actually know what it is because ANY belly dance style does NOT spread their legs at all when they perform. FACT. I've been performing professionally as a belly dancer and teaching for years, so I know of what I speak. You're misinformed.

  • @Rena66 You said it sister!

  • @Junietwerps THANK YOU!! And very well said! I'm a pro belly dancer. There is no way in hell I would ever support this or call this belly dance. I fight very hard to educate people every day as to what we actually do. 500% agree with you on ALL points. I only wish more people would realize that there is a HUGE difference between being sexy and being erotic. We are suitable for ALL audiences, children included. This is only satisfies the adult crowd.
