  • where can i get the wire? from a lure shop?

  • @nickliewwc Most anglers get the wire from Cabelas (look under their lure making section for wire) or Jann's Netcraft. Both of these retailers have websites. If you're not sure what size to buy, you can go to the "wire bait" section of our website and read about forming wire. Enjoy!

  • you can just do a swivel for the belly hook, the line from line tie to tail will pass through the swivel, thats what most striper lure builders do

  • @rclark1292 Thanks for the post. That's a good point. There are actually three other techniques that lure builders use for attaching hooks/wire...each has it's pros/cons. The one you mention (run the wire entirely on the outside of the bait) is popular for some saltwater applications because it is quick but it also requires reattaching hooks as the line wears out so it's not as common on longer lasting baits. The other two are screw-in and wire frame. All are good for different situations.

  • thats for the video, ive thought of making lures myself but have always had the problem of srewing in eyes for hooks and line. i think that you should check out luremaking101

  • Thanks Hook. Here's a tip for screws - Hold the lure during painting by compression fitting a nail into the spot where the screw will eventually go (see out other video). If you do that, you can paint and seal your bait before you add the screws. When the paint / topcoat is done, simply run a knife around where the nail meets the bait to break the seal. Put epoxy on your screw, screw it in, and then wipe off any excess. Use a small drill to create pilot holes for other screws on the bait.

  • i cant find this information anywhere i got the wire i got the lures and the hook but how do i bend the wire tight enough at the ends to hold the hooks? bending the wire is all i have left to figure out!

  • @tacklemaking thx

  • @tacklemaking My problem is that I end up drilling and not coming out at the correct spot. This really sucks if you just put a bunch of effort into making a nice lure and now it's useless. In hind sight I believe you should drill first then carve or turn your lure to the constraints of the holes. Correct?
