Mario Del Monaco in Aida in Tokyo in 1961 singing "Celeste Aida". He is obviously struggling this night so please take that into account before making a negative comment. This is one of the most difficult arias in the rep.

  • Exactly. It's very clear he was tired here.. the more amazing how he could always just launch into those high notes with such focus.. it's like at the end he's like: yeah.. I kinda messed up...but TAKE THIS. Gotta love that... It's like a Van Damme movie.

  • except, unlike Van Damme, Del Monaco is actually good

  • c`est genial!!!!!!!!

  • Il recitativo è splendido... il cantabile lascia molto a desiderare...Del Monaco possiede cento "Celeste Aida" meglio di questa interpretazione...saluti

  • Only one God, only one Mario Del Monaco!

  • MDM sang a great Radames. He is outstanding in the Verdi roles, Othello, Radames, Manrico, Alvaro, I love to hear a true dramatic tenor sing Radames as they can really trumpet those high notes and give the robust heroic sound this warrior must project, Someone like Carreras was ridiculous as Radames and Calaf let lyrics sing Alfredo or the Duke.

  • Mario tu sei troppo grande per questo pianeta e ringrazio questi filmati che lo dimostrano che ne dite ad esempio della sua performance in vesti la giubba?la profondità della sua parola fà affiorare la solarità della sua anima.

  • Tough aria because you have to sing it right away and most singers warm the voice up to their highest notes before the show. But now in this opera you have to go sing those Low notes right after you have stretched your voice, its really hard.

  • @PickBit condivido pienamente

  • @sugarbism FOR ME MDM CORELLI AND LAURI VOLPI . FOR THIS ROLE IM SURE THERE ARE MANY OTHER PREFERENCES FOR MANY OTHERS . IM NOT SAYING THAT I PREFER DEL MONACO IN EVERY ROLE NOR ANY OTHER SINGER IN EVERY ROLE BUT WE ARE LUCKY TO HAVE SO MANY ARTISTS TO CHOOSE FROM. OFCOURSE IM OMITTING CARUSO

  • HE is laboring but still performs marvelously and never dissapoints. i think hes number 1 in this opera with corelli in close second place. If i had a wish. I would like to see corelli in the opening aria then MDM in the rest of it.
