we could live on mars now,with a life support system.Yes,a colony on mars will definitely happen.Our first step in ruling..er...colonizing the galaxy.Creating a breathable atmosphere is another story.I don't think mars has a magnetosphere,so radiation is also a factor.I could see a city there,like in total recall.haha,...seriously.

it doesn't seep into the soil because there is no air pressure to make it liquid... it evaporates into the thing atmosphere. In turn the atmosphere is blown off - all but a little bit - by solar winds due to a lack of magnetic shielding
