@AnElephantsChild Im from Essex near Ian's home. The "straight" refered to here is what we use to say when we werent stoned, eg "You straight?" Its got sod all to do with any sexual stuff.

There is more than one mean here for the word straight.
He probably means straight as in 'an ordinary bloke', normal, or if you prefer, boring. Straight also means drug free. It could mean physically straight, as he had been left disabled by polio as a child. If you like it could also mean hetrosexual.
Either way he is clearly being sarcastic.

A'am Johnnie. Hoo ye deein? Aalreet? Champion! Bit odd having one lone Geordie lad in amongst a bunch of Essex boys. Nevertheless, a great band. Sad that Ian himself and drummer Charlie Charles are no longer with us. :(
