Dr. Tony Wagner, co-director of Harvard's Change Leadership Group has identified what he calls a "global achievement gap," which is the leap between what even our best schools are teaching, and the must-have skills of the future: * Critical thinking and problem-solving * Collaboration across networks and leading by influence * Agility and adaptability * Initiative and entrepreneurialism * Effective oral and written communication * Accessing and analyzing information * Curiosity and imagination

Teachers teaching to the test has been an issue for over 20 yrs! The solution is not rocket science. Assign homework that consists of problems that progressively get more difficult vs assigning alot problems of the same difficulty. This will keep the student engaged and it will teach him/her how to be analytical and creative in determining the solution.

Big surprise since this was how students used to learn before the 90's! Ofcourse you only get what u put in. The lazy kids will still do badly

A GREAT TEACHER IS THE ONE WHO INSPIRES AND SCRATCHES THE CURIOSITY INSIDE CHILDRENS' BRAINS ONLY THEN THEY WILL REALLY STUDY.Today some children are forced to study things that teachers express in a very boring way.And please put more male teachers because they inspire better. And teachers should be more healthy.Even there dress should be more inspiring and not boring. This contributes to increase the interests.Children need to be shaped in schools giving effective directions2grow like a big tree

There is this thing I like to call agency.

    The ability to choose.

Kid's need incentives. These day's the incentive to succeed is simply not enough.

    It's sad but true.

Ha......and now there's a severe shortage of skilled (hands) trades people because the emphasis on white collar work or computers ran wild!

i disagree with their dress having to be interesting, fancy outfits are what idiots wear to convince others that they are intelligent instead of actually being intelligent, also gender doesn't automatically mean that they are bad or good at teaching, also physical health is not directly proportional to mental ability(as there are plenty of intellectuals that do not enjoy physical exercise).

Critical Thinking is a scam a Euphemism for Dumbing Down the slaves of USA. It is easier to teach concepts than Technic ... today a USA Engineer knows what to do ... but NOT how to do it. It is to make schooling more palatable to students to increase enrollment. One of the main reason for importing smart ppl. This is one of the most dangerous things facing USA future. More destructive than fake terrorism. Just my opinion.

Don't engineers need to be able to solve problems? To be able to think critically is the most important skill schools need to teach. Critical thinking is not philosophy - philosophy is philosophy. In addition to problem solving, critical thinking is evaluation, application, synthesis, analysis of evidence. We can all get fundamental knowledge but without critical thinking we can't use it well.

I´m trying to change that, giving REAL options to our youth. How? please visit my dairy milk web platform project: agroasesor.co

Instead of expensive and sterile studies, I´m providing solutions..... may I talk to you using Skype, please?

Why NOT use those GOOD tests !!! How difficult can that be. Schools are FOR fundamental knowledge NOT critical thinking. USA needs Functional Engineers NOT Philosophical Thinkers.
