The province of Chechnya has often symbolised the long struggle between Russian troops and Chechen separatists.

Al Jazeera's Jonah Hull meets Ramzan Kadyrov, the president, and finds that his efforts in rebuilding Grozny, the capital, is supported by many local residents, who claim to be tired of the conflict that left the city in ruins.

  • and russia will never fight fairly they always attack to a person with 10 people or 15 and after that they say russians are strong i've never seen to chechen or circassian got beat one vs one actually chechens are so much stronger than them

  • first of all russians killed samil basayev im not chechen im a circassian but we all respect to samil he was a great leader i'll never forget to russia about it and also isn't it too hard just give back this land to the chechens what do you want ? ? just give them back or do you want to kill more innocent babies ??

  • @warjunkie44 If thats the case why did Chechens vote for Maskalav in the first free election and Basayev came second?

  • @andreyRUS17 Well then I guess you will just have to deal with them as equals then instead of as a colonised people.

  • I dont beleive Kadyrov is good for the country. As I remember, Russia started war on Chechnya again in 1999 (the so called antiterror action) , even after people elected another president, and then placed Kadyrovs father there instead.

He also lies when he says he hasnt tortured and murdered people.

Anyhow, I wish peace for the chechen people. May they not have to deal with either oppression from Russia or from any other warlord!

  • if we give freedom to chechena-we will lost the control above all Caucasus.

and there are a lot of oil.

  • trust me man, the people fighting are not "freedom fighters" as many like to believe. They are hiding under that cloak to gather support for their struggle. Those people want to establish an Islamic state there like Saudi Arabia, thats another reason why the Saudis give so much money to the fighters. Chechens dont want Islam as their constitution; they just want to live in peace like the country of Bosnia does today.
