While it never garnered the notoriety of the 'In Cold Blood' murders that occurred in Holcomb, Kansas, the murder spree of Charlie Starkweather and Caril Fugate was no less horrific This 'other' crime took place just 15 days later and only 300 miles distant. I have no idea why this 60 day long murder rampage has always fascinated me. Two people from the hard scrabble plains of Lincoln, Nebraska come together as teenagers, bond to each other and with the 'trigger' of being denied credit on the purchase of a stuffed toy dog, wander the countryside stringing together the slaying of 11 people. If I was ever to make a short documentary about these events, I might begin as this video's intro portrays.
Nice work. I live in Lincoln, Nebraska, so it's impossible not to know who Starkweather is. My film school thesis was on the 2 spree killers. Check some of my videos out - I've got boxes of old 8mm and 16mm footage, along with a lot of other hard to get images and info.
