A long rugged jeep ride to the border of Northern Thailand brings you to a world that will soon be gone. In 2001, The Karen, or Kayan group of ethnic minorities from Myamar (Burma) are caught in this simple refugee village, yet keep their dignity ... A kaleidoscope of color combines these basic surroundings with strikingly dressed women selling crafts to picture taking, gawking tourists. We had mixed feelings about going, afraid of it being a zoo...but what we found were gentle, lovely souls, educated and with a great nature, and amazing physical beauty. In recent years, it seems that organizations are trying to help them relocate, and live normal lives...freeing themselves of the money making Neck Coils that both deform and exploit them.

  • I've nbeen researching these people for a while... the rings are a choice, and they don't die when they're taken off. it simply pushes down the collarbone to give the appearance of a long neck. taking off the rings won't set them free from the village, and, since the governor of mae hong song denies them 3rd country immigration, they must choose between the long neck villages or ethnocide in myanmar

  • did anybody else hear that roaster rage 1:09

  • does anyone know the violin song used in the video "Amazing girl"?

  • @pinklolliepop5 the rings is what keeps their necks up straight if they were to take them off their necks would flop over, crack and they would die

  • This game me nightmares

  • @inachu No they wouldn't. The coils push down on the collarbone and ribs - not the actual neck. In fact the whole appearance of a longer neck is a mere illusion. They've grown accustomed to the rings since early childhood. After several years, they remove the coils, take a look at their neck, and have new ones fitted.

  • Women in more modern countries spend thousands on cosmetic/plastic surgery, how is this any different? Oh, because this is a cultural thing. Not a peer pressure/society thing. This I consider beautiful. Not those orange, duck-lipped silicone barbies here in the U.S.

  • don't you get hot in that!?

  • @x3AnimeEGG No, people can't grow more vertabre. The weight of the rings simply pushes down on the clavicle and shoulders, creating the illusion of a longer neck.

  • Bet they have great psoture and nice stright spines!

  • how can u bend ur head? musn't it hurt though???

u cant grow or get more neck bones so how does it stay upright or is that what the rings do? i dont understand this..... lol
