In the wake of the passage of the Local Community Radio Act, radio staff from non-commercial Humboldt County community radio stations gather at Access Humboldt's community media center on the campus of Eureka High School to talk about the future of community radio.
Sponsored by Access Humboldt, this event featured a keynote presentation by Gavin Dahl, Community Broadcast Coordinator at Common Frequency ( http://www.commonfrequency.org ) who discussed the intersection of citizen journalism and public access to media distribution.
Panelists from local non-commercial stations included representatives from KMUD (Redwood Community Radio in Redway), KHSU (NPR affiliate on the campus of Humboldt State University in Arcata), KIDE (tribally owned community station in Hoopa), KKDS (Blue Ox Radio, youth and community station at the Blue Ox Community School in Eureka), HPR Von (pirate station in Southern Humboldt), and Humboldt Free Radio Alliance (pirate station in Arcata). Joining them was Patrick Cleary, CEO of Lost Coast Communications, the second-largest corporate radio chain in Humboldt County.
The event was hosted by Access Humboldt's Executive Director Sean McLaughlin and Curriculum Development Coordinator Sam Kaplan.

Good video, lots of passion there. A useful book to support community radio was written by Dennis List titled Participative Marketing for Local Radio helps community and independent radio develop a sustainable model based on effective marketing. It is available free on the website audiencedialogue(dot)net, so check it out.
