Enclosure enrichment is a common practice in captive animal management. It provides stimulus to their sensory abilities reduces boredom and can be a good distraction if there is tension in the pack. These activities are commonly done in the summer months, and will be a featured program on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1 pm at the International Wolf Center in Ely. Activities can include scents, food, vegetation, new rocks, enclosure improvements or human interaction. This YouTube video features the inclusion of some deer scents and a 2nd activity of hidden food items. This is the pups first enrichment with deeper snow, making the challenge of finding things more difficult. They followed the lead of the adults, and became very adept at locating items themselves. Denali even jumped to reach a beef stick that was out of range for Grizzer.

  • What a beautiful pack. It's really wonderful to see the pups wrestle and grow, and actually start to display a little dominance over one another. But I must ask, who's the second white wolf, apart from Shadow? I never see any captions about him/her.

  • Wonderful, wonderful! Hope all of you at the IWC have a wonderful Christmas...and that the wolves get a special holiday meal, too! Thanks for all you do.
