Jason Russell, Bobby Bailey and Laren Poole filmmakers and the founders of Invisible Children Inc. received the 2008 Human Security Award in recognition of their dedication to empowering young people and raising awareness and support for the children of Uganda. Russell, Bailey and Poole set out on a film-making adventure in Africa and ended up creating a movement that channels the creativity and energy of youth in the United States and Europe into a variety of programs that allow viewers of their films to become supporters and generate resources to provide health, safety and education for the children of Uganda who are affected by a more than 20-year-long war. The Human Security Award recognizes the remarkable efforts of people working to empower and protect the world's most vulnerable communities.
