  • They all acted so calm ! seemed kinda decent bunch of guy's and just wanted to do the right thing which i guess they should have done in the first place!

  • Yep. The main problem is when the boss won't let you, which was the case here.

  • Man, you guys get away with waay more over there!..

In the UK, they'd want pedestrian barriers ALL the way round the machine and excavation, ladders secured to the shoring for access, traffic management (maybe even traffic barriers), signage AND and incident report covering why these measurements weren't in place allready.

Oh, and the risk assesment, toolbox talk, abrasive wheel permit...............

Is it any wonder the roads are so bad over here?

  • Bro, they want the same stuff over here too. The boss got off a bit too easy on that job.

  • i think it was safe

  • On some trenches, it may have been. But what the camera can't show you is that there was an existing backfilled trench from a gas main, just under where most of the guys were standing. It was very unstable AND unsafe.

That's why there's a chunk of asphalt missing, right by their feet, from an earlier collapse that day. If I was in charge, the whole thing would have been shored up, and the inspector would not have been giving us that lecture.

    Some people's bosses!

    ;D

  • yeah yeah shut the hell up and leave cause as soon as you do in the trench we go hahaha

  • You need a boss like mine. He knows i know what needs to be done to get the job done right and doesn't question me. He just tells me what the problem is and lets me go, of course in one year when he retires his job will be mine. I won't let my guys get into a trench that i wouldn't get into myself, and they know that and trust me with their lives. You can't half ass shit like that people can die or be seriously injured and i don't want that on my mind.

  • Needed another trench box, nothing more.

In Texas the inspector would ask for a friendly donation!

  • Boss probably wouldn't let you slope the ditch to save money on assfault. Its happend to me too. Then compo shows up and shuts you down.

  • @Rovahead

We are not allowed to connect a ladder to the trench box. the ladder has to be set so that it is only connected at the top to a fence post or something...

  • "Trench safety" How abot lift safety? Over here you are not allowed to lift without a safety hitch on the hook.

  • Yeh well i watched that video a couple of times and i thought you all handled the whole deal really well!! nobody got upset just listened to what that guy advised you to do and set about doing it!
