exactly! I agree completely. I thought Leslie Howard was the only actor that didn't completely fit his role. Olivia de Havilland was brilliant as Melanie as well.

Now if only they got the PERFECT actor to play Ashley like how Gable and Leigh were spot-on in their roles. For all his flaws I admired Ashley in the book for his honorable and sophisticated refined personality which Leslie failed to portray in the movie.

He made Rhett so badass in the scene they were fleeing from Atlanta-Reeally I wished the book version of the scene went exactly as the movie-it was cool seeing Rhett take on the gang of men trying to steal their horse and knock them out with one blow each and how he blinded the horse so they can continue traveling when it got too scared because of the fire. Neat addition!

I agree. Considering the large length of the novel, Sydney Howard(screenplay writer of the movie) did a marvelous job of keeping the story intact and a number of additions he made were actually pretty neat such as the scene where the wounded Confederate soldier was being decaptitated so he can be saved from diseases ;D.
