Shinryu is an optional boss in Dawn of Souls and 20th Anniversary editions of Final Fantasy. He is arguably the hardest boss in the former. Shinryu is very adept at wiping out entire parties with ease, as he wields various attacks that all inflict large amounts of damage to all party members.

Although Shinryu can use Thunderbolt, Ice Storm, and Tidal Wave, the biggest threat is his ability to cast Flare. With each casting, Flare can either leave the party close to death, KO a few and leave the rest on the verge of defeat, or destroy them outright. Shinryu's physical attack can inflict large amounts of damage as well.

The speed at which Shinryu can cleave through a party makes this battle more about all-out power than anything else (instead of the endurance battle Omega ends up being). One should be at least level 70 to avoid being utterly annihilated in a couple of turns, but successive castings of Flare will still doom anyone. Victory is likely if Shinryu doesn't wipe the party out in the first few turns, because his 35,000 HP isn't well-protected and he is susceptible to high-powered physical onslaughts.

This guy is a pain in the ***. Flare is annoying as hell. If they gave him obscene defence then he would be the hardest boss hands down.

This guy was difficult even with master and knight dealing around 5000 damage each round it took a while to beat this guy

This is one of the reason's why I got all my guys to Level 99, used the Equipment Glitch to get 4 Ultima Weapons, and cleared the Labyrinth of Time before going against this guy.......All I needed to do was just use the Equip Glitch and get to level 99 for Omega, but this Shinyruu made me pass the Time Labyrinth.....

I beat all of the bosses once, I'm pretty sure that my party was in the upper 80's. I didn't bother with the chaos labyrinth though, it was a pain to remove your commands.
