Craig Welch takes viewers inside a surreal, meticulously crafted world to meet a mysterious protagonist and his otherworldly visitor.

In this surreal exposition, we meet a man, obsessed with control. His intricate gadgets manipulate yet insulate, as his science dissects and reduces. How exactly are wings attached to the back of angels? In this invented world drained of emotion, where everything goes through the motions, he is brushed by indefinite longings. Whether he can transcend his obsessions and fears is the heart of the matter. A film without words.

Directed by : Craig Welch. Produced in 1996

From my perspective, this short film is about man's desire to find immortality. The man wishes to escape death so he wants to become an angel. The woman is a ghost and represents death and the mysterious afterlife. Upon getting a mere glimpse of this ghost, he chases it which represents wasting his life over a question until he dies. He strives to make meticulous contraptions to understand life, but there is nothing more meticulous than natural life.

Yes, logically it should be spent on the military and on corporate subsities.

From my perspective, this short film is a waste of the tax payers money in Canada. If someone wishes to experiment with weird things, it should not be done on the "people's money".

In my opinion, the man lost his beloved wife or lover, he's painfully sad and couldn't let go. He starts to imagine how the dead body (the woman) gets a pair of wings, which make her turns into an immortal angel or bird, so he could still own her, keeping her into the little cabinet. However, the imagination could never come true, the woman doesn't exist anymore and he is trapped in his deadly circles over and over again, never escape.

As creepy as it was, that was truly artistic. Finally, someone actually reveals the true anatomy of an angel, if one were to exist and actually be able to fly. Too bad the tail feathers are often forgotten, which allow the bird to maintain stability in the air. Still, this is totally epic animation. Just what I was looking for in wing articulation! Thumbs up!
