Sincerely
Sincerely was originally recorded by The Moonglows,(song was written by Harvey Fuqua and Alan Freed) who scored a number one single on the Juke Box and number twenty pop. The biggest-selling version was a cover version recorded by The McGuire Sisters, entering the charts in 1954 and reaching number one the next year. Many Rhythm & Blues collectors decry the cover version by the McGuire Sisters which kept the Moonglows off the Pop charts, but it is said Fuqua stole lyrics from a 1951 Dominoes tune, "That's What You're Doing To Me". The bridge in both songs is almost identical: "Lord, won't you tell me/ Why I love that woman so?/ She doesn't want me/ But I'll never let her go". In 1988 the country quartet Forester Sisters reached #8 on the Billboard Hot Country chart with their remake of the song.
Additionally Bobby Vee released Sincerely in 1960 and The Four Seasons released their version in 1964. There are likely other releases. My favorite is by The McGuire's.

  • Saw them on PBS yesterday, do a live reunion I think.

  • @cumensu chances are the special you saw was originaly broadcast in 2004. That tape has been making the rounds of PBS stations for the past year or so during their fund raising campaigns.

  • Wow!! Both The Moonglows and this version are perfect cruising songs, but these girls really do hit the spot!

  • Gotta say as much as I love the moonglows, I love the female rendition of this song even more.

  • I really, really love this. I'm so happy I discovered the McGuire sisters.

  • This version won me over not just because of the perfect harmonization, but also for the stand-out lead vocals. So damned sexy! It's got that World War II-era vocal quality and sultriness that you just can't hear with the other versions. I'm not sure if the other one I found on YouTube was the Forester Sisters' cover, but it sounds alright too... but for me, it still takes a back seat to the McGuire version.

  • they just don't make them like that any more!
