PS - I note the 'Out of Sight, Out of Mind' lyric similar to the Models hit with the similar title from Sydney in the same year. I'm pretty sure Rockmelons were first, although it's probably a coincidence.
I would LOVE to hear their original 'New Groove in the Neighbourhood' montage featuring Brown/Bambaataa - Unity, Pumpkin - King of the Beat, Globe & Whiz kid - Play That Beat, etc. If anyone still has this, pleeeeease upload to Youtube!
I realise a much softer, poppy version of 'New Groove' appeared on their 1988 'Tales of the City' album, but this version was nothing on their original.
Don't remember a clip, but the grooves on my 7" vinyl must almost have been worn out. Only ever saw the band a few times (including an abortive gig in Wollongong where only about 5 of us turned up to see them and supporting I'm Talking's first Sydney gig at the Chevron). Loved the dulcimer!!
This was the band's first single, released independently on Phantom records and recorded some time previously as an exercise in the studio. The cover art of the single was amazingly blown up as a set by Countdown, and extensive use was made of the new Chroma Key process. It features the vocal work of Sandi Chick, who sang with many Aussie bands during this time. I am playing keyboards.
