In this episode I show a system that was my main gaming platform for well over ten years and my favourite title from it.

In keeping with previous episodes it has been split into two parts. This part focuses mostly on the game and the first part can be found here:

'Rock Paper Shotgun' article on 24 things they'd like to see from the new X-Com game:

  • Superb video(s) as always. I've heard of the UFO series but never played nor seen them before. The level of detail you went into is excellent. The game kind of reminds me of the amazing Disgaea series - Nippon Ichi's strategy role-players on PS2, PSP and PS3, mainly because of the turn-based combat and detailed planning involved.

I enjoyed your general talk about PC gaming too. I don't have a gaming PC at the minute but I have enjoyed it in the past.

  • @MrVengeance83 Thanks for your kind words; happy to hear that you liked it.

I'd never heard of the Disgaea series but I'll keep an eye out for them now when looking through sales of old PS2 games.

  • I have to say I have never played RTS games as they don't really appeal to me. However watching this vid has gotten me interested, I can see that they would suck up a lot of time but this actually looks like a lot of fun. I like the music and sound effects as well, reminds me of a period of time, the wolfenstein/doom era in particular, very cool stuff. And i'm a crack shot apparently lol. Excellent vid as always :)

  • @Snestastic I forgot to mention that 'X-Com: Enemy Unknown' is available on the PS1 but it tends to fetch an eBay price somewhere north of £20 which for me is a tad pricey for a game on that format, and especially when I've got it on another system. It's one of those games that I'm always hoping to find at a car boot sale or in one of those silly Gamestation sales. Even if you aren't really into RTS is definitely worth getting on one format or another purely for all the ufology related content.

  • @Wetmopboy Good point, that definitely could be the case but I'm not sure how they'd get it airborne again without it being tracked on radar. When I first played the game I did expect the craft to take off again after a while but they just disappeared. Maybe they'll address this issue in the remake.

  • @PsimanUK I tried it and its pretty much an exact port of the pc version.

  • @1991jiub I'd love to give it a go on the PS1 but it's pretty pricey on eBay at the moment. I'm really happy to hear that my video has created interest in the title for another person. When you've given the PS1 version a bit of a play through I'd be really interested to hear what you think of it.

  • @MrStephen182 I might actually do that but it will have to be much further down the line as I've already got the next 10 or more videos planned out. I think it would be interesting to see how the YouTube gang get on further down the line. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • I had the PS1 port of this game many years ago but unfortunately I was much to young to understand it. After watching this might have to try it again.

  • Again awesome video. You should do a let's play of this game.

The first Disgaea is the best - superb turn-based strategy role playing! I played it for more than 350 hours back in the day. Its twee, but its got a great story and funny characters. The depth in the gameplay is frightening. Quite rare now but I hope you spot it out on your travels!
