This is a beautiful thing. She has a manifesto. There should be more manifestos in the art world today. Anyway, I think she nails it most of the time, but she fail to be as universal as she should (according to her manifesto). I love it nevertheless. Certainly is a bitter world out there, one just have to read a few comments here to get enough proof of that.
She positioned herself on that stage because she has the right to because of her oeuvre: she has something to say. If artists would have listened to critics in the past nothing would have ever changed; art would be nowhere because that's what it's is about: making a path that wasn't there before; giving reality another perspective. Kant says the genius is the one who defines his own rules and manners of which the mechanisms can't be defined.
I can only say that contemporary art just allowed everyone to call themselves artists! But i also admire the kind of people who follow these "artists" because it is very hard as there is actually no art at all!
I tell you this. For a lady of 63 she's in good nick physicaly. So, maybe the stage thing keeps you in shape, that's a positive. She doesn't hurt a fly with her art, that's good too. Art is taking a weird route at present. Ideas over craft, Installations that hardly make sense. Just as long as there's room for us basic artists who have not refined our Manifesto into bla bla bla. It's do you like it? buy it? how much? that's real art!
What is typical to a certain level of fame is the swelling of the head s. Basically , her opinion on art and her ideas she should keep to herself. As goes for having kids I agree with her , she isn't mentally cappable of bringing kids up normally. As she is preety buggered up in the head. Asgoes for myself , I am asking myself the question " Why am I even writing this?" ie wasting my time!
I was there at the Biennale, and I wanted to see some of her videos, her AMAZING works...one american artist left and shouted "Bullshit" she heard it... I stayed on to the end. 50% of of her Manifesto i'm okay with. The 9 rules and the NO CHILDREN thing is rubbish. Red carpet treatment for the new art Queen. Can art go back to basics, can you paint? sculpt? draw? 90% of the time it's NO ! but I can strip naked and scream out loud my Manifesto with a pair of Mephisto shoes on!
