@manachurch sigh. you do realise that every single american thinks that they speak Standard English, right? anyone who is a monolingual English speaker thinks that they speak Standard English - though in reality there is too much variation in the speech of an individual, and change in the language over time for there to be a proper Standard of any language. and for that matter, in the flimsy definitions of a language standard, accent doesnt come into it at all. sorry, im a linguistics student...
