Stupid answers on Quiz shows
Because i'm really tired of explaining the same things all the time, to those ignorant people who come here to express their own theory without knowing what they are talking about and without any sources. There are a lot of comments arguing about "Rime", (5 + 1 Continents) and the nationality of Macedonians.

1) Rime. The spelling rhyme (from original rime) was introduced at the beginning of the Modern English period, due to a learned (but etymologically incorrect) association with Greek ῥυθμός (rhythmos, rhythm).
The older spelling rime survives in Modern English as a rare alternative spelling.

2) Continents. There are numerous ways of distinguishing the continents: 4 continents model. 5 continents model. 6 continents model. 7 continents model.

The terms Oceania or Australasia are sometimes substituted for Australia to denote a continent encompassing the Australian mainland and various islands of the Pacific Ocean not part of other continents. For example, the Atlas of Canada names Oceania,[14] as does the model taught in Italy, Greece[20] and in Latin America, Spain and Portugal.

3) Nationality of Macedonians: Some people post comments claiming that Macedonia was a separate country from Greece. This is totally out of line, because there was no Greek state back then. If we try to identify their nationality by modern sense of nationalism, then we would end up claiming that there were no ancient Greeks and no ancient Greece. Borders and passport do not make a nationality.
Ancient Greeks had a different way of identifying their nationality. Roots, language, culture were some of the criteria and not the administrative divisions.
Dorians, Ionians, Aeolians, Achaeans were the 4 major tribes into which the Greeks considered the population of Hellenes to have been divided.

Macedonians were a Dorian tribe. Same as Spartans.

Macedonians spoke a Doric Greek dialect

Ancient Greece was an area with many city-states and Kingdoms. During the history of Ancient Greece a total of 1,500 to 2,000 city-states - Kingdoms were established. Athens, Sparta, Corinth, Thebes, Epirus, Macedonia, Eretria, Chalkis were some of them.

The idea of a Pan-Hellenic (Greek) country, was expressed by the Athenian Isocrates, who also wrote a letter to King Philip.

Only Greeks had the right to participate on the Olympic games. Macedonians took part on them.

Alexander: but I am myself a Greek by descent, and I would not willingly see Greece exchange freedom for slaver. Herodot Book 9,45 (KALLIOPI)

  • The last one was a trick question. The Greeks didn't consider him Greek but he did. I would have said Macedonian but Greek should have been an acceptable answer. Why the Greeks resented him was that he was a King and most city-states, even Sparta, had some form of democracy. Also, he drank wine straight while other Greeks watered their wine down. Bad game-show question. On the other hand, he read his Homer and saw himself as a modern Achilles, he was mentored by Aristotle.

  • @Duke1839 Other Greeks considered him Greek. Macedonians participated at the Olympic Games, while only Greeks had the right to participate. Some Athenian politicians called Phillip a barbar, since Athens was the most powerefull state in the Greek world and obviously Macedonia was threatening this dominance. They tried to influence other Greek states to fight against Macedonia, so Athens don't lose the dominant role.

  • Wow.. nice going guys.. what language did Alexander speak? Did he needed a translator when speaking with Athenians? Antic Greek was not a national state, but a large array of cities-states, or region-states, much like Italy or Germany afterwards were divided in many opposing land lords - still sharing same culture, language base and ethnicity.

The fact that now a country is named Macedonia and Greeks don't like it is another matter - population change during last 2500 years make it a reality.

  • @Rookie972 FYROM, which also known as Republic of Macedonia does not have any connection with ancient Macedonia. Most of these people are Slavs.

  • @HellenicLogic No. I do not think that this is the point. I would have said Macedonia to. Yes, Alexander conquert Greece( to be exact the citys Sparta and Athen) very fast, but Macedonia exsisted as a cotry long before that. And what do you say to the Macedonians living today. It is still a contry for itself. In the fictional pasport of Alexander would have been writen: Nationality: Macedonian.

Post scriptum: Plese ignore my mistakes. I am from Germany):

  • Btw so by helleniclogic if the US was overrun and taken over by Russia, George Bush would be Russian? Might want to try out a new channel name.

  • @gghia1989 You should buy a new sarcasm detector, i think yours is broken.

  • That's right people give dumb answers, but the snarky, condescending BBC voice if far from smart either in its stupid arrogance.

  • The country known as Macedonia today is a country that took that name during the early 90's after liberating themselves from Yugoslavia. Befroe then there was NO mentioninng about them as Macedonia. They just took the name from their geographical position (Nrthern Macedonia). Just occupying the name doesn't mean that ancient Macedonians had any relation with those Yugoslavs. Get your facts straight people!

  • @Lennart2512 So with your logic every single city-state of ancient greece was another country ? greek city-states allways had civil wars. when you say that the ancient macedonians conquered the other greek city-states does'nt mean ancient macedonians weren't greek. In that case when Sparta conquered Athens what does that mean? That atheneans were Dutch and Spartans were French? Ancient Macedonians spoke greek, praised the greek gods, participated in the olympic games(only greeks could participate)

  • wow, this video is about fails in tv-shows and then the first place is actually correct?? alexander the great was born in macedonia which makes him macedonian. what a fail video

  • What the fuck is this video? Egypt at the place of Armenia !?
