@HellenicLogic No. I do not think that this is the point. I would have said Macedonia to. Yes, Alexander conquert Greece( to be exact the citys Sparta and Athen) very fast, but Macedonia exsisted as a cotry long before that. And what do you say to the Macedonians living today. It is still a contry for itself. In the fictional pasport of Alexander would have been writen: Nationality: Macedonian.

The country known as Macedonia today is a country that took that name during the early 90's after liberating themselves from Yugoslavia. Befroe then there was NO mentioninng about them as Macedonia. They just took the name from their geographical position (Nrthern Macedonia). Just occupying the name doesn't mean that ancient Macedonians had any relation with those Yugoslavs. Get your facts straight people!

@Lennart2512 So with your logic every single city-state of ancient greece was another country ? greek city-states allways had civil wars. when you say that the ancient macedonians conquered the other greek city-states does'nt mean ancient macedonians weren't greek. In that case when Sparta conquered Athens what does that mean? That atheneans were Dutch and Spartans were French? Ancient Macedonians spoke greek, praised the greek gods, participated in the olympic games(only greeks could participate)

'Rime' is spelled rhyme.
The last one was a trick question. The Greeks didn't consider him Greek but he did. I would have said Macedonian but Greek should have been an acceptable answer. Why the Greeks resented him was that he was a King and most city-states, even Sparta, had some form of democracy. Also, he drank wine straight while other Greeks watered their wine down. Bad game-show question. On the other hand, he read his Homer and saw himself as a modern Achilles, he was mentored by Aristotle.

@Duke1839 Other Greeks considered him Greek. Macedonians participated at the Olympic Games, while only Greeks had the right to participate. Some Athenian politicians called Phillip a barbar, since Athens was the most powerefull state in the Greek world and obviously Macedonia was threatening this dominance. They tried to influence other Greek states to fight against Macedonia, so Athens don't lose the dominant role.

Wow.. nice going guys.. what language did Alexander speak? Did he needed a translator when speaking with Athenians? Antic Greek was not a national state, but a large array of cities-states, or region-states, much like Italy or Germany afterwards were divided in many opposing land lords - still sharing same culture, language base and ethnicity.
The fact that now a country is named Macedonia and Greeks don't like it is another matter - population change during last 2500 years make it a reality.

@Rookie972 FYROM, which also known as Republic of Macedonia does not have any connection with ancient Macedonia. Most of these people are Slavs.
