Diverse groups of workers in Illinois are repeatedly cheated out of earned wages. Current law is weak. It does not give the Illinois Department of Labor the adequate tools or resources to keep up with this rise in wage-theft cases. Employers have been getting away with cheating employees out of their hard-earned wages for too long and needs to stop.
The Just Pay for All Campaign has proposed a solution to the problem; Senate Bill 3568, sponsored by Senator William Delgado, would amend the Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act and allow for the creation of a swift and effective process to adjudicate small claims. Increased civil and criminal penalties for violators and shifting fees to private attorneys will relieve the enforcement burden on IDOL and save the State of Illinois money while deterring low-road employers from stealing their employees pay.
Worker disillusionment with the current system has led to this movement by workers throughout the Chicagoland area. The Just Pay for All Campaign is a community initiative led by workers to safeguard their wages, seek justice and recourse from unscrupulous employers.
