I have the vinyl still.... I was only one locally (small town) but I doubt if too many had within 100 miles.. I bought it in Calif but took it with me to Louisiana where I went to school.... white kid at black school.... everyone liked it but thought it was a black girl or maybe Janice... I love Pearl mind you but Genya was something else... Old now but hearing this brings some very high nights back... thanks

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a radio station that played all the artists, songs & albums that were ignored, brushed aside, forgotten or never given any credit? Rock burned brightly with some incredible artists through the decades but at the same time many just didn't get a chance. Maybe we can still discover & enjoy them. Ten Years After is a great place to start. Mother Earth is next. Then Zephyr. Genya Ravan -- who says a white girl can't sing the blues? Damn.

There is a great Terry Reid compilation called Superlungs. It features the cover of his 3rd LP which had Stay with Me on it. This was released in 2005.

@Pace9000 Genya was a guest on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show, decades ago... that night she was a solo artist, for some reason, the band wasn't with her.
My dad was the engineer for that album. At the time, he worked at A&R studios in NYC. I heard "Come Live With Me" as a reference mix first. It was such a contrast to the rest of the album. Weeks later, I heard Scott Muni introduce "How Long Before I'm Gone" on WNEW-FM; it was a hard rock powerhouse at the time. Genya on harp, what a treat!

I was concert committee chair at a small state college in Pennsylvania and had the pleasure of picking up the group at the airport and getting them to the college. What a hoot they were!

Luck enough to have caught Genya Ravan and Ten Wheel Drive in concert back around the "Brief Replies" album. The band was great and Genya was fantastic. Serious soul. Janis woulda been proud.

I remember the name of the song I was talking about when I said it was "I want your money" The album is in storage so I didn't have it to go by but the name of the song is "Listen to the Junkman". That is my favorite of her music.
Of all the versions of this tune over the years this is the only one that even comes close to Lorraine Ellison's original. Genya has away with soul covers & it's a shame she didn't do more of this material. Her "Hold On, I'm Coming" is also a killer!
