I think its corny how this took place in 2006, and Rener is only using BJJ. The times have changed, learn how to mix it up. BJJ isn't superior than striking, its just different. Once the grappler has a striker on the ground, the striker's martial art no longer applies, he's playing a grappling/ground and pound game. The same can be said about a striker who can avoid every take down from a BJJ practitioner, the bjj will not apply.

Its funny how many people don't realize that there is strikes in GJJ. Watch some of the Gracie Combatives videos, lots of strikes. GJJ is for real life encounters, the more sport oriented BJJ is focused towards grappling tournaments. Educate yourselves before you comment or risk having your opinions ridiculed.

Funny, this "Amateur UFC fighter" below tells a story about how a guy for his finger bitten off applying a RNC, biggest tell ever. Anyone who has taken like two BJJ classes knows that's impossible unless your mouth is located on the back of your head or shoulder. No clue at all what he is saying, I actually laughed aloud

@dedqqh2u funny how the VAST majority of people don't get into any type of fight their entire lives but you seem to be attacked everyday. Maybe the best martial art for you would be to stop picking fights and use some common sense to stay out of bad areas
-
@dedqqh2u here is my counter argument, I've been in 500 fights, have 30 black belts and 70 years experience and say nothing in the world can beat GJJ. I have the same claim to legitimacy you do. Simply put, striking is not effective without excellent takedown defense and submission counters in today's well educated enviroment
-
@dedqqh2u making claims of your martial arts accomplishments to disprove the claims of established fighters without proof is as inane and illogical as my 3 sentence statement. It's the age of modern MMA, not 1980, if you want to prove a point, such as "GJJ is just as vulnerable to strikers as any art" you have all the resources and more that Rorion Gracie did. Start your own revolution.

@krichards816that's great. cross training allows you to experience more drills or views on how to use your body. everything is a weapon, and every style can teach how to use them. you ask about my styles, I do MDK tang so do, judo, haidong gumdo, hapkido, and a little bit of gjj. I didn't mean to sound prideful, all I meant is that those who depend only on gjj should realize a whole other world of fighting. I fought and beat a few practitioners, but I would never say I can to all.
-
@Pyxo8888 Agreed. One of my teachers trained in many styles, he no longer uses gjj because he rear naked choked someone- the guy escaped by biting his finger off- meanwhile the victim's girlfriend kicked him in the head. It's great for 1v1 with rules, but once it hits the pavement, so much more can happen.

@CommanderYuan Agreed, I get sick of gjj worshipers who think nothing else works. In pure gjj matches, of course I'll win some and lose some, but in real fights, everything is a weapon, and I have used striking on the ground to escape or gnp. cross training is wonderful, but no one should rely on just striking, or just grappling. Like you said, the more legs you have to stand on, the better.
@morten90 No, why would it be grappling only when the TKD guy has obviously never grappled?? My god the excuses....

@JGSH13 I agree with this, it all comes to down proper "Alive" training..if you train with tip tape BS, that's what you'll instinctually do.. I remember having to relearan YEARS of that crap nce I started kickboxing...
