Please watch in HQ when available. Europa Barbarorum is a detailed historical modification for Rome Total War.

This is the last of a bunch of videos with my random thoughts about the armies of classical antiquity using EB to help me explain. Hopefully you will be interested. Keep in mind that this is the internet: don't take my words for granted. Research yourself and draw your own conclusions. About the commentary, I'll say in advance that I'm no Cluny the Scourge.

I command an overpowered urban/praetorian spam, and I fight against an army of the Ptolemaoi (Egypt). Later I might show an Egyptian Army in more detail.

The mod Europa Barbarorum has the best campaign experience and the battles are much better in the campaign as well. Beware, it is extremely hard.

  • In case you didn't know, urban cohorts weren't in any sense "elite". I don;t know why the vanilla did it, but they were practically militia with a fancy name. EB simply fixed it.

  • "sarcasm" :D

  • I like your comments ;)

I guess your vigiles smelled some smoke and thats why they ran back to their camp, fighting the fire. You know Ptolomaioi aren't a real challange for them, fire is the big enemy!

  • Liked the video so much. Thanks for it.

It's to damn hard to find on YouTube some videos of Europa Barbarorum or Roma Surrectum II. They're so much better than the original (and awful) stuff of Rome: Total War. I like those mods because they focus in the historicity instead of only focusing in the game (You'll be agreed with me on the fact that those blasted vanilla egyptians suck).

    Thanks again =)

  • vigiles urbani= urban cohort=firefighters=police

  • @baph42 Yeah I always thought it was weird that the urban cohorts are the strongest romen infantry unit in vanilla RTW. The name implies that they were some sort of city force.

  • Creative Assembly should've taken the idea from the EB crew. Then again, it's more satisfying when the mod is better than the original! :D

  • @aceblazer25 It's true , they were only used as a police force and never saw combat in any period of roman history. In case you're wondering, your reserve of Cohors Praetoriani were the very best soldiers in rome.

  • AI= Automatic Idiot

  • town watch

  • @westny88 Actually the Cohortes Urbanae weren't militia, but the "police force" of the city of Rome in the imperial times. They were seldom used in battle, but they were still professional. The "Urban Cohorts" in this video are actuallu units called Vigiles, who also did Police duty, but were also a fire brigade.

  • search en.wikipedia for cohortes urbanae, they even mention RTW^^

As baph42 says, there have been urban cohorts, but nevertheless they didn't fight in battles and there didn't exist that many of them...
