  • What I mean his octave passages are electrifying, he can produce a tremendous volumn and variety of tone and by the same token he could make a magnificent impression as a master of rubato and pianissimos as the great virtuosos of the past. His musical phraseology the feeling of restraint is superb. Yes, he is indeed in my opinion the best ever. But, of course I am no expert. It's only what I believe.

  • One of the greatest pianists of the century.

  • The rock trio I was drumming for had to follow this guy on live TV, on The Nick Clooney Show, in 1971. Tough act to follow.

  • @12345qazx1

    Indeed.

  • an example for young pianists in the 21 Th century

  • Happy Birthday, Mr. Schumann!

  • I've always deeply admired Van Cliburn. His recordings mesmerized me as a teenager. I have heard him live at different intervals in my life, sometimes in recital, sometimes with orchestras. It probably is unfair to hold anyone to superstellar levels of achievement for the remainder of their lives. When he was at his prime, his piano playing was profoundly beautiful and powerful. He has done much for the piano world, in addition to his wonderful legacy of recordings. Thank you, Van Cliburn!
